💊 Tired of Waiting an Hour for Your Morning Coffee?

Hi Reader,

Ever found yourself juggling your morning coffee craving with your levothyroxine timing?

Trust me, I've been there!

Today I want to share something that's been a total game-changer for my thyroid routine - and it all started with those middle-of-the-night bathroom trips!

You know how we're supposed to take our levothyroxine at least an hour more before eating or drinking anything?

Well, I discovered something that works brilliantly for me.

When I get up for one of those inevitable 3-4 AM bathroom visits, I keep my levo right there and take it then.

By the time I wake up properly, I'm well past that crucial absorption window and can dive straight into my morning coffee ritual (which, by the way, I've turned into a serious health boost - but more on that in a minute!).

Quick myth-buster:

Despite what you might have heard, coffee isn't off-limits for most people with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's!

In fact, it's packed with anti-inflammatory properties.

The key is timing it right, at least an hour away from your medication and not overdoing it.

Its also important to drink good quality coffee. Not instant.

Now, let me share my favorite morning brew - it's like a coffee chai that's working overtime for your thyroid health!

Here's what I do:

I brew mine in a cafetiere with high quality ground coffee.

I then use a milk frother with barista-style almond milk (great dairy-free option for my Hashi warriors who are sensitive to dairy!).

But here's where the magic happens - I add a powerful anti-inflammatory blend:

  • A sprinkle of turmeric (nature's inflammation fighter, packed with curcumin that helps calm thyroid antibodies)
  • A dash of ginger (amazing for reducing inflammation and supporting digestion)
  • A pinch of cinnamon (helps stabilize blood sugar and adds wonderful warmth)
  • Crushed cloves and sometimes cardamom seeds (for that gorgeous chai-like flavor)

The result?

A delicious, warming cup that feels like a treat but is actually supporting your thyroid health!

Here's something interesting:

Some people are finding better results taking their levothyroxine at night, a few hours after their last meal. The theory is that it might be absorbed better when your digestive system is quieter.

Plus doing this ensures its taken well away from food and morning coffee.

(Always chat with your doctor before switching up your medication routine though!)

Quick Action Steps:

  1. Review your levothyroxine and food/coffee timing - is it really giving you that minimum full hour before food/drinks?
  2. Try upgrading your morning coffee with some anti-inflammatory spices
  3. Consider keeping your thyroid meds by your bedside if nighttime dosing might work for you (after checking with your doctor!)

Remember, these small tweaks to your daily routine can make a big difference in how you feel.

it's about finding what works best for YOUR body and lifestyle.

Here's to feeling more energized and taking back control of your mornings! ☕

Hi Reader, I have to share something that happened this Sunday that totally shifted my perspective (and might change yours too) 🌟 You know those moments when your heart just sinks? That was me when "Italian" was suggested for our weekly Sunday dinner family get together. If you're anything like me, your mind probably immediately goes to all the "off-limits" foods – pasta, bread, and more pasta! Italian isn't known as being the most gluten free of cuisines. Right? As someone with...

It's about the day I did something I never thought I'd do after 32 years of being a committed vegetarian... Picture this: I was at rock bottom with my health. I'd had 10 years of undiagnosed Hypothyroidism leading to Thyroid cancer. Even after my thyroid was removed and I was on 100% thyroid medication, things...
