I hope this makes it easier...

Hi

I wanted to share something that happened today while I was doing my 91-year-old dad's weekly shopping.

(And I know many of you are probably juggling similar caregiving responsibilities – it's not always easy, is it?)

There I was in Tesco, rushing around like we all do, when I hit that familiar lunchtime dilemma.

You know the one – where the sandwich section seems to be calling your name, but deep down you know those gluten-filled options aren't what your body needs.

Let's be honest – we can be good at staying on track with our hypothyroid-friendly diet when we're at home.

But it's these "on-the-go" moments that can really test us.

When we're busy taking care of others, sometimes we end up putting our own health needs last.

But today, I want to share my little "secret weapon" for these situations...

Instead of falling into the sandwich trap, I've trained myself to head straight to the protein section.

Today, I grabbed some delicious hot smoked salmon pieces.

Other times, I'll go for:

  • Ready-cooked roast chicken pieces
  • Char-grilled prawns
  • Roasted nuts and seeds

Here's why this simple switch is a game-changer:

  1. Protein keeps you satisfied for hours (no 3 PM energy crash!)
  2. It won't spike your blood sugar like bread or pasta
  3. You avoid the gluteny aftermath that can leave you feeling awful
  4. It's just as quick and convenient as grabbing a sandwich

The real breakthrough comes when you realize that "lunch" doesn't have to mean "something between two slices of bread."

Once you shift this mindset, you'll start seeing convenient, healthy options everywhere.

Quick Action Steps:

  • Next time you're shopping, scope out the protein options at your local supermarket
  • Keep a mental list of your favorite grab-and-go protein choices
  • Consider keeping some nuts or seeds in your bag for backup

Remember: Being busy doesn't mean we have to compromise our health.

Sometimes the kindness we show to others (like caring for our elderly parents) needs to be matched by the kindness we show ourselves.

Here's to making healthy choices, even in the busy moments,

P.S. What's your go-to healthy lunch when you're out and about? Hit reply and let me know – I'm always looking for new ideas!

Hi Beautiful! You know what really lights a fire under me? When people are told there's nothing they can do about their autoimmune thyroid condition, Hashimoto's “Just take the tablets,” they’re told. “Diet won’t make a difference. Just accept it” I’ve been saying for years that this simply isn’t true—and now, I’ve got some solid research to back it up. 👉 A new study looked at how ancestral or ‘paleo / primal-style’ diets impact autoimmune thyroid disease… and the results were pretty amazing....

Hi Beautiful! As I was out earlier, I noticed the first daffodils and crocuses starting to peek through the soil. The air was mild, the sky was clear, and for the first time in months, it felt like winter was finally loosening its grip. For those of us with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s, this shift in seasons can feel like a real turning point. Winter can be especially tough when your thyroid isn’t functioning optimally. Low thyroid levels can make it incredibly hard to stay warm, and for...

thyroid and neurodivergent

Hi Beautiful!, This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week (March 17-23, 2025), and there's something I've noticed in our community that I think deserves more attention. I ran a poll in our Facebook group a while back asking about whether members were either diagnosed or thought they were on the neurodiversity spectrum. Amazingly 61% of those responding either have a diagnosis or suspect they might have ADHD, autism, or both. That's not a coincidence, and today I want to talk about why. PLUS...
