❤️ Can’t slow down? Try this instead

I had a moment of realisation this week.

You know how we always hear, “Put yourself first, take care of yourself!”?

I say it myself all the time.

But when life is demanding—when work is piling up, family needs you, things are breaking (cars, bodies, spirits)—how do we actually do that?

My husband’s away, my workload has exploded, my dad needs more support, and I can feel myself getting run down.

Sore throat, exhaustion creeping in. And, of course, because I have thyroid issues, I know stress is the worst thing for me.

It suppresses the immune system, increases inflammation, and can send thyroid symptoms spiraling—fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, all of it.

Yet, I still struggle to put myself first.

Because when you have responsibilities, when people rely on you, how do you not keep pushing through?

But here’s what I’ve learned:

We may not be able to change our circumstances, but we can shift our outlook.

Today, I decided to stop focusing on everything that’s weighing me down and start looking for glimmers.

Tiny moments of beauty or peace that can shift my nervous system out of stress mode—like the colours of the trees I’m driving past, a brief patch of sunshine breaking through the clouds, or the sound of a bird singing outside.

Why does this matter for thyroid health?
Because stress isn’t just a feeling—it’s a trigger.

It raises cortisol, which can interfere with thyroid hormone conversion, slow metabolism, and make symptoms worse.

It also fuels inflammation, which, if you have Hashimoto’s, means your immune system is even more on edge.

So here’s something small but powerful to try today:

Look for your glimmers. A warm cup of tea in your hands. A song that makes you feel good. A kind word from a friend.

These tiny moments help your nervous system feel safe, which in turn helps your body function better.

It’s not about making huge changes or carving out hours of self-care. It’s about these small, intentional moments.

And over time, they add up.

So today, just try to find one glimmer.

And if you do, hit reply and tell me what it was—I’d love to hear.

Take care,

Hi Beautiful! You know what really lights a fire under me? When people are told there's nothing they can do about their autoimmune thyroid condition, Hashimoto's “Just take the tablets,” they’re told. “Diet won’t make a difference. Just accept it” I’ve been saying for years that this simply isn’t true—and now, I’ve got some solid research to back it up. 👉 A new study looked at how ancestral or ‘paleo / primal-style’ diets impact autoimmune thyroid disease… and the results were pretty amazing....

Hi Beautiful! As I was out earlier, I noticed the first daffodils and crocuses starting to peek through the soil. The air was mild, the sky was clear, and for the first time in months, it felt like winter was finally loosening its grip. For those of us with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s, this shift in seasons can feel like a real turning point. Winter can be especially tough when your thyroid isn’t functioning optimally. Low thyroid levels can make it incredibly hard to stay warm, and for...

Hi Beautiful!, This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week (March 17-23, 2025), and there's something I've noticed in our community that I think deserves more attention. I ran a poll in our Facebook group a while back asking about whether members were either diagnosed or thought they were on the neurodiversity spectrum. Amazingly 61% of those responding either have a diagnosis or suspect they might have ADHD, autism, or both. That's not a coincidence, and today I want to talk about why. PLUS...
