What if your ‘weight problem’ isn’t really a weight problem at all?

Hello Reader,

You might’ve seen the news - the UK government’s launching a new obesity project in Scotland.

They’re funding weight loss injections for thousands of people, mostly in the poorest areas.

Now, before I go any further, let me say this: I’m not against weight loss injections.

For some, they can be absolutely life-changing. ❤️

But here’s what’s being completely missed.

If proper thyroid testing were funded first, so many of those people wouldn’t even need weight-loss treatment at all.

Right now, thousands of women are living half-lives because of untreated or under-treated thyroid issues.

They’re told their labs are “normal”... yet they feel exhausted, foggy, depressed, heavier than ever - and guilty for not being able to “just lose the weight.”

They push through the day on empty batteries. They forget words mid-sentence. They cry for no reason and wonder, “Is this just me now?”

It’s not just them.

It’s the system.

The NHS mainly tests TSH, which is like checking your thermostat but never seeing if the house is actually warm.

What’s missing is Free T3 - the active thyroid hormone that drives your metabolism, brain, and energy.

When that isn’t tested (or treated), people are left feeling stuck in bodies that don’t match how they want to feel.

And yet millions of pounds are now going into weight-loss injections - before even asking, “Is this person’s thyroid working properly?”

Because if your body can’t make enough T3, no injection on earth will fix the fatigue, brain fog, cholesterol, or low mood that come with it.

💡 Key takeaway:

It’s not about choosing one or the other - it’s about getting the order right.

Test first. Treat properly. Then see what’s really left to fix.

If the government invested even a fraction of that funding into complete thyroid panels - Free T3, Free T4, and antibodies - we’d prevent countless people from reaching crisis point in the first place.

Because when hypothyroidism is missed or mistreated, it doesn’t just cause weight gain - it quietly steals lives.

Careers fade. Relationships strain. Hope slips away.

So yes, fund the obesity programs. But start by testing properly.
That’s how you tackle the root cause instead of patching symptoms.

With love and fire,

Hello Reader, I want to talk about a kind of tiredness that words don’t really cover. The kind that seeps into your bones. The kind that makes even walking up the stairs feel like climbing a mountain. When my hypothyroidism first really kicked off after having my children, that’s what it was like. Looking back, I think it started much earlier, maybe after glandular fever in my teens, but pregnancy was what tipped it over the edge. I remember standing halfway up the stairs, two little kids in...

Hi Reader, I’m taking part in a traffic challenge this month – but this isn’t about numbers for me. It’s about bringing this space to as many women as possible who need it. My community, The Hypothyroid Recovery Hub, is for women with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s who are tired of feeling stuck, unheard, and unsure what to do next – and who are ready to take their energy and confidence back. My vision is simple: a safe, supportive space where women can finally get clear answers, rebuild trust...

Hi Reader, I want to talk about something I hear far too often from women with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s: “I’m over 50 now, so this is just my lot. It’s all downhill from here.” And you know what makes this worse? Doctors reinforce it. 😠 You go in feeling exhausted, gaining weight, or struggling to concentrate - and you’re told: “Oh, that’s menopause.”“Oh, it’s just your age.” As if that’s the end of the story. But it isn’t. The truth is: blaming age for thyroid symptoms is one of the...
