⚡ When doctors blame everything but your thyroid

Hi Reader,

I need to share something important with you today - something that took me 10 years to figure out, and honestly, I wish someone had told me sooner.

You know that feeling when you KNOW something's wrong with your body, but doctors keep dismissing it?

That was me, exhausted, gaining weight, and battling with my mental health after my last baby was born.

and the doctors said...

"Oh, it's just postnatal depression."

"Well, you have young children at home. no wonder..."

"That's normal for your age..."

"Must be perimenopause..."

Sound familiar?

What they missed - and what I desperately needed them to check -

was my thyroid.

It wasn't until I developed a visible goiter and, eventually, thyroid cancer, that someone finally connected the dots.

Here's the thing:

Thyroid disorders are masters of disguise.

They get misdiagnosed as:

  • Depression (those stubborn mood changes and brain fog)
  • Anxiety (especially when your thyroid swings between over and underactive)
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Perimenopause
  • Anemia

And while doctors might be quick to prescribe antidepressants or dismiss symptoms as "normal aging," getting the right thyroid diagnosis and treatment (including proper medication like T3 when needed) can be like pushing a boulder uphill.

🔍 Key Signs You Need to Push Harder for Answers:

  • Your symptoms are being dismissed as "just stress" or "just aging"
  • You're being offered antidepressants without thyroid testing
  • Doctors refuse to test for Hashimoto's antibodies
  • You're being treated for symptoms (like anemia) without investigating the root cause
  • Weight loss solutions are being pushed before thorough thyroid optimization

💪 Action Steps:

  1. Request comprehensive thyroid testing, including Hashimoto's antibodies
  2. Keep a detailed symptom diary to show patterns
  3. Don't accept "normal" TSH as the only answer if you still feel unwell
  4. Seek a second opinion from a thyroid-aware practitioner if needed
  5. Trust your intuition - you know your body best

Remember this:

Being "difficult" or "demanding" isn't nearly as dangerous as being undiagnosed.

You're not overreacting, and you're not alone. Sometimes, being your own advocate isn't just important - it's essential.

Here for you,

P.S. If this resonates with you, hit reply and let me know. Your story matters, and I'd love to hear it.

Hello Reader, You might’ve seen the news - the UK government’s launching a new obesity project in Scotland. They’re funding weight loss injections for thousands of people, mostly in the poorest areas. Now, before I go any further, let me say this: I’m not against weight loss injections. For some, they can be absolutely life-changing. ❤️ But here’s what’s being completely missed. If proper thyroid testing were funded first, so many of those people wouldn’t even need weight-loss treatment at...

Hello Reader, I want to talk about a kind of tiredness that words don’t really cover. The kind that seeps into your bones. The kind that makes even walking up the stairs feel like climbing a mountain. When my hypothyroidism first really kicked off after having my children, that’s what it was like. Looking back, I think it started much earlier, maybe after glandular fever in my teens, but pregnancy was what tipped it over the edge. I remember standing halfway up the stairs, two little kids in...

Hi Reader, I’m taking part in a traffic challenge this month – but this isn’t about numbers for me. It’s about bringing this space to as many women as possible who need it. My community, The Hypothyroid Recovery Hub, is for women with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s who are tired of feeling stuck, unheard, and unsure what to do next – and who are ready to take their energy and confidence back. My vision is simple: a safe, supportive space where women can finally get clear answers, rebuild trust...
